WHAT HAPPENED?
As per reputed journalist, Ben Jacobs, the English manager has asked his club to try and sign Cristiano Ronaldo's teammate from Al-Nassr as a like-for-like replacement for the former Liverpool midfielder who joined Ajax just six months after joining Ettifaq. Fofana is currently on national duty with Ivory Coast and therefore striking a deal could pose problems.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
It was revealed last week that Ettifaq were very low on confidence regarding the move for Fofana due to a shortage of financial freedom for the Dammam-based side. However, Henderson's move to the Netherlands has now got the club believing the deal could be struck before the end of the transfer window.

DID YOU KNOW?
Fofana made the move to Saudi in the summer of last year after a great season with Lens in Ligue 1. However, the Ivorian has failed to show much vigour and has therefore fallen down the pecking order in the Al-Nassr camp. Therefore, a loan move to Gerrard's side could be beneficial for his career.
